V080.jpgFaux lashes can add the finishing touch to so many Halloween costumes this year, but it’s important that you apply them properly so they don’t end up half hanging off before the night is over! We consulted celebrity make up artist Christopher Drummond, who has worked with Jennifer Lopez and Kimora Lee Simmons, for some professional tips.

1. It takes time to apply lashes properly, so do a few trial runs first to get comfortable with using them, Drummond suggests.

2. Strips are probably the easiest option for Halloween purposes as opposed to individual lashes, but make sure you cut them to fit your eyes perfectly.

3. Curl your lashes before applying faux lashes because it will help the look hold better. You can also apply mascara before and after application if you want.

4. After applying eye lash glue, let it dry a little before applying falsies. “The glue thickens as it dries, and it’s easier to manipulate,” Drummond explains.

5. Start applying the lashes at the inner corner of the eye, and make sure you get as close to the lashline as possible. Drummond suggests using a toothpick to push the lash into place.

6. Take your time. “The glue takes a few minutes to dry, so you have plenty of time to adjust,” Drummond says.

The best place to pick up a pair of faux lashes in time for the weekend? Head to Sephora or the costume store for ultra-glam options, but the drugstore also carries them if you are in a pinch!

clear_skin2.jpgSo you wash your face twice daily, apply a spot treatment on pimples, and do a deep-cleansing mask occasionally. You’re doing all you can for clear skin, right? Wrong. We’ve told you before that there are sneaky factors, like the germs on your cell phone, that can cause acne. Here’s a to-do list of things you need to do to ensure beautiful skin throughout the fall season:

1. Clean the surface of your cell phone and home phone - staying up late gabbing with your best friend or talking to your crush on the phone might be fun, but it’s damaging your skin. Bacteria hiding on the phone can get onto your skin causing acne to form on your chin and cheeks (and who knows what other gross germs are on there!). Clean your phone every other day with an anti-bacterial or alcohol towlette.

2. Wash your pillow case regularly - bacteria can hide out here too, so it’s important to toss your pillow case in a hot wash and dry cycle weekly. This will also zap some of the allergens that might have you feeling under-the-weather.

3. Clean your make up brushes with shampoo and water once every three weeks - this is a must-do. Also, toss out any old wedges you were using for application and get new ones at the drugstore.

4. Wash big jewelry, too - this one is not-so-obvious: your fabulous new bib necklace might be causing chestne. Use a jewelry cleaner on pieces you wear often to keep your chest blemish-free.

5. Throw your towels in with your pillow case - using a towel to wash or dry your face more than once can encourage bacteria growth, so pick up a stack of face cloths and use each one once before tossing it in a hot wash with your pillow case.clear_skin_f2010_thumb.png

BLISS-H1001.jpgThe school year is in full swing, and you’re starting to look and feel a little tired. Late nights of studying coupled with early mornings aren’t doing anything for your skin.

If you’re ready to look revitalized, the Bliss At-Home Oxygen Blast Set ($84 at blissworld.com) is worth the splurge. The Triple Oxygen Energizing Face Mask will give your fresh glow every day while working to keep skin clear and smooth. Relieve fatigued, stressed out skin with the Triple Oxygen + C Energizing Cream, which contains vitamin C and improves hydration while brightening skin. And the Instant Energizing Eye Mask is our favorite part of the set. Put it on for 15 minutes in the morning after a late night of studying (or a late night of texting your boyfriend and updating Facebook), and you will look totally recharged and refreshed. Antioxidant vitamin C and cucumber extract de-puff and revitalize the eye area.

Not ready to shell out almost $100 for three beauty products? Add this set to your holiday wish list, and believe us - once you start using it, you’ll never go back!
