The slightly warmer (read: 40 degrees) weather in New York has made us go gaga for summery dresses, but unfortunately the temperature is not quite high enough yet for most of them to leave the closet. One exception is bright, floral dresses. Floral was a popular trend this fall and winter, and floral prints are totally appropriate to wear right now. Pair them with opaque tights and pumps this month, and when summer days finally arrive, switch into bare legs and strappy sandals.

Highlights from London Fashion Week

comments
London Fashion Week drew to a close this week, and while it's not as famous or influential as New York and Paris fashion weeks, there are some important designers who showed their fall collections. Here are some of our highlights from the week:

House of Holland - The clothes were fun and young, but what stuck with us were the bright, patterned tights and sporty knee socks.

Matthew Williamson - We loved Matthew Williamson's fall collection. Bright colors is what the designer does best, and the swirling prints in this collection are amazing.

Burberry Prorsum - So many drool-worthy coats! That's all we have to say about this collection, take a look for yourself:

Vivienne Westwood Red Label - There was so much we liked from this show! First off, the cape, which is totally going to be the "it" outerwear next fall. Second, the pink and orange plaids are the perfect mix of youthfulness and professionalism. And in the fourth look we picked, we love the way the top sticks out a little below the skirt (and the cool belt).

Twenty8Twelve - Sienna Miller's line is by no means "high fashion" (the price points are too low and clothes are less intricate), but she and her sister still decided to do a presentation during LFW. While it seems odd to view this collection during the same event as Burberry Prorsum and Christopher Kane, we still like a good deal of the fall pieces. They are all very wearable. Here are some of our favorite looks:

We recently caught up with the Beat Freaks, the all-female dance team from Los Angeles, California. Each of its eight members achieved individual success and decided to come together in 2003 to show the world that females can dance just as well if not better in what is perceived as a male dominated dance world. The Beat Freaks were featured on MTV's America's Best Dance Crew (Season 3) and have been featured on numerous television shows, in music videos and tours with the likes of Pink, Avril Lavigne, Miley Cyrus and Madonna, as well as in movies like You Got Served and Step Up 2.

We talked to the girls about what influences them, their love for fashion and their obsession with sneakers.

How much does fashion play a role in your performances?

Huge! Fashion and Dance go hand in hand. Dancing is visual and about a vibe, so the flyer you look, the flyer you feel on stage. In our performances, we like to paint a picture to be remembered and what you are wearing is a gigantic part of that.

What is the best fashion advice you ever got?

Be yourself, anything looks cool when you wear it with confidence.

How would you describe your personal style?

'80s-inspired, quirky and fun, sometimes with a side of punk.

Do you wear any of your performance clothes on the street?

Yes, the shoes. My favorite pair to dance in right now are the new Nike Delta High Lites!

Any beauty secrets you would like to share with our readers?

YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!! And wear sunscreen.

7 wearable fall fashion trends

comments
Last week we recapped individual New York Fashion Week shows, but now we've had the time to absorb them and figure out the answer to the question on everyone's minds: what are the big trends for fall? Here are seven trends we noticed that are totally wearable.

1. Sequins

sequinsfall2010.png
Make it wearable: For nighttime, sequins are a total go. But when you're trying to tone it down, throw on a business-like blazer.

2. Chunky scarves & sweaters

chunkyfall10.png
Make it wearable: Big, chunky sweaters look amazing with skinny jeans and leather boots (belt it to add curves). Wear the cozy scarves with a cardigan and simple tee.

3. Velvet

velvet10.png
Make it wearable: Start small, e.g. a velvet handbag or shoes. If you're feeling adventurous, try tucking a velvet top into a black pencil skirt or wearing a velvet dress with black tights and pumps.

4. Layering

layeringfall10.png
Make it wearable: Layer solid neutrals over each other for a no-fail outfit. For example, try wearing two sheer t-shirts (white and grey) together under a cardigan.

5. Thigh-high socks

Make it wearable: Layer over leggings to avoid looking too risque.

6. Fur

Make it wearable: A fur collar is always classic and elegant - buy one and wear it with your coat or alone instead of a scarf. To save money, go for faux fur.

7. Maxi Dresses

Make it wearable: Keep the rest of your look (jewelry, accessories, etc.) simple and always wear heels. If you feel like you're being taken over by the dress, try belting it.
