Recently an older male on Twitter said that
Taylor Swift had better get sexy soon, because her cute thing was getting old. That was extremely offensive as no one should be in any rush to mold themselves to someone else’s definition of “sexy”, or indeed has any obligation to be sexy whatsoever. But what he sort of had right is that Taylor Swift has got to grow up. The popstress has to stand for something, and start talking real talk instead of safe sound bites. Apparently she will not be standing up for Feminism.
Asked if her music empowers women by
The Daily Beast, Swift seems to shy away from the idea, basically saying maybe, but it’s not intentional. And, to the question, “Do you consider yourself a feminist?” Swift had this to say:
“I don’t really think about things as guys versus girls. I never have. I was raised by parents who brought me up to think if you work as hard as guys, you can go far in life.”
That’s a pretty feminist thought, except that actually in America if you work as hard as guys you will still make less than them. That’s called the gender wage gap, and it’s something that Feminists and other decent human beings are against.
I wish Taylor Swift would stand up for something other than puppies and rainbows and use her power and influence to educate her fans.
