1. Use light colors to contour
“Unlike most makeup artists, I like using lighter foundations with lots of luminosity to add a glow to the skin and to contour the face,” he notes. “Light adds to, and dark takes away from, so if you want to accentuate something, highlight it.”
2. Remember: Contouring is all about creating an optical illusion with shadows
Depending on your face shape, you can use contouring to minimize certain features and create angles, says Scott. “For example, if you have a long face, you can shorten your chin. Round? You can emphasize your cheekbones. Or, if you have a wide nose, you can slim it down sans plastic surgery!”
3. Don’t contour on top of your makeup
According to Scott, you should always contour BEFORE you put on your foundation. “Go under your cheekbone with bronzer,” he advises, “and use a highlighting powder on the highest plane of your cheek.”
