December 2009 Archives

Blake Lively_edited-1.jpg
Gossip Girl fans have always known about Blake Lively, but in 2009 the rest of the world really got an eye-full. As illustrated by her 25 appearances in Women's Wear Daily's Eye column - the most of any party goer!

I think this is also a nod to the high-fashion designers Lively has always chosen, along with her fashion risks. Which, admittedly, mostly involve cleavage.

Other than her backless, and practically frontless, Versace gown, another trend Blake helped bring on that night was the braid. You can't quite see it in this picture but Blake donned a high ponytail with a thick braid hanging down just weeks after braids had been big on the runway of Alexander Wang.

Top of 2009 in one of it's biggest hair trends tonight! Keep reading for instructions on getting the look.

"Flashy Classy"

That's what Usher describes his style as.

We agree.

He has been known to look dapper in everything from suits to stylish street pieces, like hoodies and leather jackets, making him a fashionable man to watch whether dressed up or down.

Usher told Associated Press he is focusing on building a lifestyle brand right now and not rushing into designing clothes.

We'd love to see some of the flashy classy pieces he would have in store!

1. I will remove make up before going to bed every night. Doing this simple trick will keep skin clean and clear. And make sure you remove eye make up as well, since all that gunk can cause infections and other issues. If it seems like too much effort, try keeping make up removing pads by your bed, like Almay Hypoallergenic Eye Make Up Remover Pads ($4.99 at drugstore.com).

2. I will wash my make up brushes and throw out expired products. Unwashed brushes can cause acne and contaminate make up, making it expire faster. Expired products don't work as well and can cause breakouts and infections. Keep everything clean and fresh, and you'll be all set! Wash your make up brushes about once every two weeks with a gentle shampoo.

3. I will try a new hair style. Do you wear your hair in a ponytail every day? Do you straighten it every day? In 2010, vow to try something different. Maybe a classic bun, undone waves, or even a pretty new clip.

4. I will master the smokey eye. Whether you learn via an online tutorial, a magazine, or by using a smokey eye kit, this classic eye make up style is a must-do for 2010. If you're a total beginner with bold make up, try Sephora's Smoky Eyes Palette ($38).

5. I will use a moisturizer containing SPF daily. This is probably the most important resolution you can make. A tan might look great now, but all the wrinkles you're going to have in 20 years? Not so much. I don't even need to get into the cancer lecture. Protect your face every day, no matter what the weather, by using an SPF 15 moisturizer, like Clean & Clear Soft Oil Free Moisturizer ($8.49 at drugstore.com).

Have a Safe and Happy New Years!! Oh, and don't forget to wear your glitter eye shadow tonight :)

viviennewestwood_wallpaper.jpgFor those 2-in-1 fashion and interior decorating enthusiasts, wallpapering with Westwood may be the first thing on the docket come 2010.

For 100£, or approximately $159, a roll of one of the iconic prints from the couture designer's various collections can be all yours.

Check out the prints available here right now (if you wanna jump on a plane to Britain) or wait to start adding Vivienne Westwood to your walls when the special wallpaper becomes available later in the year.

Mulberry is really in love with expatriate Alexa Chung  just as much as the rest of America!

The bag will be called Alexa, of course, allowing everyone to have a little piece of the MTV host.

The Alexa will be available in various shades and sizes, making it more convenient to incorporate into your wardrobe for a few hundred bucks (or more).
