She plays a hero on television and now the Humane Society of the United States is calling Hayden Panettiere a hero for animal rights. Hayden was awarded the Gretchen Wyler Award, an honor given to a celebrity who brings significant attention to an animal rights issue - which Hayden did in 2007 by protesting the slaughter of dolphins in Japan.
MIlo Ventimiglia was there, along with her parents, to watch her accept her award (which she did through tears). They are definitely dating.
