How To Wear It: Leighton Meester and Vanessa Minnillo

Red is definitely the accent color of choice when wearing black and white. Vanessa Minnillo's outfit included not one, not two, but THREE red accents: her bag, the flower in her hair and her red toes peeping out of her heels.

It's way too much. Include an accent color in one or two accessories and think outside the box. Hot pink, bright yellow and even gray all look great with black and white ensembles.

Or keep it simple and don't add an accent color at all. We far prefer Leighton Meester's take on classic black and white. The simple and subtle print adds interest without being overwhelming like Vanessa's.
